Do you get really thirsty before bed?
I mean like you take a few sips of water before brushing your teeth and then, just as you get under the covers and you realize my mouth is really dry. So you have to get up and go get another glass of water.
Do you ever toss and turn after that because you're so thirsty that you can't sleep?
Or wake up at 4am and chug 12 oz of water?
Is this just my issue?
So I think my bedside table is closer to the bed now than it has been in the past, and I have knocked over my bedside water glass not 2, not 3, but 4 times in the past two months. Yes, I have my Bible and cell phone right there: in prime location for soaking it up.
The solution:
And you thought sippy cups were for kids!
...those arbitrary thoughts, which leap into my head while staring at my computer, roaming around Whole Foods, or biking around town. Am I the only one who has these thoughts?

mess
Last night, I attempted to make a pecan crust. It turned out soupy, so I made it into a crumble topping for an apple pomegranate crisp.
I made an apple marzipan galette, too.

When cleaning everything up, I poured a bag of (raw organic) sugar all over the counter, my pants, socks, and the floor.
Why are we so afraid that others will see how messy we are?
Do we really think that they are less of a mess?
I hear about the splatter, and yet, my idea of Ellen has in no way fallen to the depths of kitchen doom. She's my really really good friend and her messiness will never change that.
So in hearing of her mess, and knowing my high esteem for her, I look at my mess with less self-deprecation. It's not comparison. It's the domino- effect of grace.

"I am such a mess."
I sighed.Ellen asked me, "Did I tell you I used the blender to make dinner last night?"
"no?"
"Well I was unaware that when you blend something you have to hold the lid down..."Creamy white wine sauce splattered all over the kitchen.
:)

initiative... I do not have it.
Stacey joins me as I blog this lovely evening. (with ice cream cake, which makes everything that much better, and hot water and lemon, but not mixed together)
We just came from the AFC and along road home, we passed the University of Virginia Hospital. On top of a wall or something there is a slide show constantly running. It says things like

the name that shall not be spoken
I have a friend, yes, we are real friends, who does not speak her name. She adds such random joy to my life, she deserves several bloggings. Today I shall blog about what happened yesterday:
Busi, Marian, and I, were going to the Statistics Department Chinese New Year Party. The Stat department held the potluck celebration instead of a typical Christmas party at the end of Fall Semester. This makes sense, mostly because the department is over 50% Asian. In true respect for the Asian theme, Busi suggested we make dumplings. Now, I like getting creative in the kitchen, but really, I don't feel confident in my wonton-forming skills. So the three of us wandered around the Asian Market for about a half hour and left with two bags of frozen dumplings and a bottle of sauce. Busi wished she could be making them from scratch as she did with Matt Henry (don't let the British-sounding name fool you...) I was excited to use my wok. Marian needed c

We quickly got tiny chicken dumplings stuck to the wok and had to call Matt for help. He came to the rescue (?) like a good friend. Soon, in the confusion of burning dumplings sticking to pans and my trying to make cookies to salvage our potluck attendance, a pyrex dish exploded on the stove, throwing shreds of glass all about my kitchen.
Busi: "hahaha...after the initial shock...i thought...boy miranda is really prepared for accidents. ...but that was my random thought" Marian, in her good, FDA-employee, character, leapt to her feet. "Don't move!" She commanded, "Where's a broom?" Oh! Typed words do not do her gallantry justice! Somehow, with Marian's emergency alert system and Busi's help, we cleaned up most of the shards of glass and headed to the party an hour late. oh! Happy New Year!!!! Next time, I will have to do Karaoke in Chinese.
